There’s no great peaks towering over us to alert us to what to expect, just the understated beauty of the Welsh countryside
As we set off for the day ahead, the sky a milky blue awaiting a fresh burst of life from the rising sun, there’s little sense of what’s to come. Our legs warm gradually on the rolling country lanes, the sound of chatter softly floating through the morning air, each and every one of us oblivious to the adventure that lies ahead. There’s no great peaks towering over us to alert us to what to expect, just the understated beauty of the Welsh countryside.
The soft crunch of gravel under our tyres marks the start of the real adventure, the landscape swaddles us between its folds from where we will not emerge for many happy kilometres, and not until we feel as if we have left the rest of the world behind and ridden deep into the heart of Wales. We all ride for different reasons, but for me it is to feel at one with the environment around me, which is exactly what I felt riding with Conquistador in Wales.
